Summer School, TWIN, and WIBF

Summer School

The Intercultural Management Summer School (IMSS) is a collaborative academic project of Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon (RMUTP) and the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS). International students from Thailand, Bhutan, China, and Germany practice intercultural group work and gain insights into applied international management practices. These offers are complemented by lectures and social events, in which students learn how to interact with the different cultures of the participating countries. For further information, please see the Summer School website.

The TWIN Programme

The English-taught bachelor's programmes at the THWS Business School are conceptualised as TWIN programmes matching the already existing German-taught bachelor's programmes. These TWIN programmes make it possible for you to study in German and English. After successful participation in the programme, students receive a TWIN certificate in addition to their bachelor's certificate.

Read on for information on requirements and choice of courses. For further information on application and additional degree programmes, please refer to the website of the THWS International Office.

Students must be enrolled in either the bachelor's degree programme Business Administration (BBW) or International Management (BIM). In order to receive a TWIN certificate, students must complete courses of the respective other degree programme.

It is possible to start a TWIN programme in a higher semester. To receive the TWIN certificate, students must have successfully completed one of the TWIN degree programmes of the faculty.

Students must prove German and English language skills (C1 level, Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR). There are different options for proving linguistic proficiency:

German C1:

  1. University entrance qualification based on a German-taught school leaving certification
  2. Proof of a TOEFL or IELTS test certifying language skills on C1 level of the CEFR
  3. Successfully completed THWS language courses / modules certifying language skills on C1 level of the CEFR

English C1:

  1. University entrance qualification based on an English-taught school leaving certification
  2. Proof of a TOEFL or IELTS test certifying language skills on C1 level of the GER
  3. Successfully completed THWS language courses / modules certifying language skills on C1 level of the CEFR

The students develop intercultural competence by working on interculturally oriented problems and tasks, or by working in cross-cultural project teams.

The faculty council of the THWS Business School decides which modules of one semester’s curriculum are suitable for students to develop the required intercultural competence:

  1. BBW modules of semester 1 through 4
  2. BIM modules of semester 1 through 4
  3. BBW core electives
  4. BIM business electives
  5. Semester abroad
  6. Internship abroad

To prove intercultural competence, students are required to complete modules of at least 10 ECTS.

The list of modules provides an overview of previously recognised modules.

4. Minimum requirement of ECTS in German and English

To provide evidence for successful completion of modules in the corresponding language of the TWIN degree module, students need to provide a minimum level of examination:

  1. 40 ECTS for students starting in a TWIN degree programme before 1 Oct 2016
  2. 60 ECTS for students starting in a TWIN degree programme after 1 Oct 2016

Students of a TWIN degree programme can take exams in the other language of the corresponding module starting from their 1st semester. By registering for a specific examination, the student decides whether to participate in the German language format or in the English language format. The language chosen for the first attempt of passing the exam does not commit the student for the same language in any further attempts of examination (retakes or improvement of grade).

The internship will be assigned to one of both TWIN languages by the language of the written internship report. It doesn’t depend on the location of the internship or the language that is commonly used there.

Students can also perform courses and examined assignments in the other language beyond the corresponding TWIN degree programme, as far as these efforts can be credited against the compulsory modules of the respective TWIN degree programme.
